Camp Potlatch is now hiring spring and summer staff for 2019! We're looking to round out a staff team of adventure seekers, motivated individuals and young people who aspire to make a difference in the lives of children and youth. Come work and play along the sandy shores of the Howe Sound located just 45 minutes from Vancouver.
Camp Potlatch, owned and operated by Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC, is a wilderness based residential summer camp located on BC's Howe Sound for children between the ages of 7 and 16. Camp Potlatch has been in operation for over 60 years with the philosophy of providing quality summer experiences to all children, including those from low-income families. Successful camp staff candidates will require a criminal record check and must provide references.
Responsibilities for Camp Staff Include:
- Planning, implementing and leading Camp Potlatch programs
- Leading an overnight canoe, kayak, or hiking based out-trips
- Being a creative, flexible, supportive, and approachable leader
- Working as an active and positive member of the Camp Potlatch staff team
Qualifications:
- Must be 19 years of age by June 25, 2019
- Clear criminal record check (including vulnerable sector search)
- Standard First Aid and CPR C are required
- Bronze Cross Lifesaving Certification is required
- Preference will be given to those with NLS or Wilderness First Aid (40 hours)
- Prior experience working with youth aged 7-16
- Effective communication and teaching skills
- A responsible and mature attitude
- Self-motivation and problem solving abilities
- Ability to lead traditional camp activities; canoe, kayak, archery, etc.
- Ability to work independently and make responsible decisions
