    Message # 13748673

    Organizational Overview:

Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch is situated on 41 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch summer medical camps.

    Reporting to: Assistant Camp Director

Participants Supported: Counsellors-in-Training (CITs) and Leaders-in-Training (LITs)

    Position Type: Contract, Seasonal

Length of Contract: Summer Camp Season (2027)

Compensation: $157.00 per day; plus, meals and accommodation provided during camp sessions.

    Number of Positions Available: 1

    Position Summary:

The CIT/LIT Coordinator is responsible for supporting the learning, development, supervision, and overall experience of participants enrolled in Zajac Ranch's Counsellor-in-Training (CIT) and Leader-in-Training (LIT) programs. CITs and LITs participate in these programs as registered campers. CITs will participate in Mixed Medical Camps #2 and #3 and all three Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) camps. LITs will participate in Mixed Medical Camp #1.

During sessions where CITs or LITs are scheduled, this role is focused primarily on mentoring, developing, supervising, and integrating those participants into the camp environment and does not assume the responsibilities of a Unit Leader. During both Young Adult camps, where no CIT/LIT program is scheduled, the CIT/LIT Coordinator will work as part of the frontline camp team and will be assigned Ranger and/or Wrangler responsibilities as needed. This includes supporting camper supervision, staff-to-camper ratios, program facilitation, staff break coverage, transitions, meals, evening programs, and other operational needs as assigned by the Camp Director or Assistant Camp Director.

    CIT/LIT Program Structure & Progression:

The CIT and LIT streams are progressive leadership-development programs offered within Zajac Ranch's summer camp experience. Participants register and attend as campers while gaining age-appropriate leadership skills, guided practice, mentorship, and increased responsibility.

    •      Leader-in-Training (LIT): Participants may enter the LIT program beginning at age 14. LITs attend Mixed Medical Camp #1 as registered campers and pay the applicable camp/program fee for the one-session LIT experience.

    •      LIT participants focus on foundational leadership skills, communication, teamwork, responsibility, positive role modelling, and learning how to support an inclusive camp community.

    •      Following the LIT experience, participants who meet the minimum age requirement may apply to the CIT program and will follow the CIT application and approval process.

    •      Counsellor-in-Training (CIT): Participants must be at least 16 years old and register as campers in the CIT program. All CIT applicants will be interviewed before being accepted into the program.

    •      CITs participate in a structured leadership-development experience during Mixed Medical Camps #2 and #3 and all three ASD camps, with opportunities to build practical skills through mentorship, guided responsibility, reflection, and supervised participation in camp life.

    •      Upon successful completion of the CIT program, a participant may be considered for graduation from the program. Graduation and any next-step invitation will be based on the collective assessment of the senior management team.

    •      Where collectively approved by the senior management team, a graduating CIT may be invited to return for one additional camp session at no cost to participate in an advanced CIT experience with increased responsibility, mentorship, and skill development.

    •      Completion of the standard CIT program does not automatically guarantee an invitation to the advanced session, and completion of the advanced session does not guarantee future employment.

    •      After the advanced CIT experience, participants who wish to return may register for a future CIT program at the applicable program fee or, where they meet the required age and qualifications and positions are available, apply for a Camp Counsellor position.
