    Job Title: Senior Manager, Child, Youth and Family Programming

    This is a full-time, contract position (approximately 12 months).

    MAKING AN IMPACT
     
    Reporting to the Vice President, Cancer Support, Programs and Services, the Sr. Manager, Child Youth and Family Program is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership on the development, implementation, evaluation and sustainment of children, families, youth, young adults programs across the country. This includes overseeing the Camp programs that runs in the Atlantic and BC that help create a safe and supportive environment for children and youth living with and beyond cancer and their families at summer camp and during year-round programming, and activities to support and prioritize the lived experience of adolescent and young adult (AYA).
     
    This position involves frequent traveling

    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

    1. Camps Strategic and Operational Plan

    • Leads national camp programs planning for future program advancement.  
    • Provides operational direction in the development and implementation of all year-round and summer programming in consultation with the Manager, Camps and Atlantic Coordinator, Camps. 
    • Manages the implementation of program evaluations and integrates results of evaluations into future program planning.
    • In collaboration with Assistant, ensure efficiency and oversight of processes, registration system, system reporting, and website.
    • Provides oversight on promotional and communication plan. 
    • Manages the Camp Policies nationally. 
    • Manages national procurement of camp specific marketing assets and materials. 
    • Ensures that the Camps team are adapting and implementing national risk management measures and health and safety standards in the delivery of camps programs. 
    • Monitors program reporting and ensures that results are integrated into annual budget and other reports.

    2. Oversees Adolescent and Young Adult [AYA]

    • Oversee the adolescent and young adult portfolio including supervision of camps. 
    • Identify, mitigate, and manage ongoing risks. 
    • Works with the Cancer Support leadership team to identify opportunities for camp development or other AYA initiatives in provinces.

    3. People Development

    • Provide coaching, oversight and support to direct reports
    • Provide support and direction to Manager, Camps in the development, alignment and accomplishment of objectives through training, quality and development opportunities for staff within the portfolio.
    • Provide support and direction to Manager, Camps in recruitment, training, and recognition of volunteer workforce. 
    • Work with Team People to ensure efficient processes for annual seasonal and medical team hiring.
    • Creates a culture of professional accountability.
    • Works in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations and complies with the Society’s Health & Safety Policy.

    4. Financial and Stakeholder Management

    • Works with the Revenue Development team to support and pursue funding by meeting with donors, providing insight on program needs and collaborating on donor recognition. 
    • Liaises with Revenue Development and Communications team to connect appropriate families, participants and volunteers to speaking engagements or revenue development opportunities.
    • Attends events as needed to support fundraising efforts. 
    • In collaboration with the VP, Cancer Support, Programs and Services, negotiates contracts and legal requirements to ensure successful delivery of programs. 
    • In collaboration with the VP, Cancer Support, Programs and Service, maintain and continuously expand relationships with hospitals, UBC, Atlantic Camp facilities, camping associations locally and nationally, camping programs and organizations that run health related camps 
    • Responsible to provide strategic support to CCS camps and child and youth programs across Canada. This includes leveraging Camp Goodtimes - BC infrastructure [e.g. booking systems, relationship with camping bodies, marketing and digital assets, policies and processes etc.] to help support other similar CCS programs across the country.

    5. Other Duties

    • Foster a high-performance culture that leverages the unique talents and strengths of each member while encouraging their growth and development.
    • Champion CCS as a hero in the face of cancer.  
    • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in child development, Recreation or related field. 
    • 5-10 years management experience (child and youth programming preferred).
    • Experience leading a workforce
    • Experience working with volunteers 
    • Experience working with youth and families with exceptional medical and psychosocial needs including but not limited to those with physical disabilities, mental health issues, and of diverse cultures and ages.  
    • Experienced in initiating, maintaining and expanding working relationships with multiple stakeholders both internal and external, often with competing priorities and differing perspectives. 
    • Understanding continuous quality improvement principles. 
    • Experience in managing multiple program budgets. 
    • Strong people manager that can provide leadership, support and coaching as required. 
    • Knowledge of the cancer system is considered an asset 
    • Experience managing cancer support programs and services is considered an asset 
    • Change management and or process improvement experience.
    • Leadership experience in emergency situations.
    • Must have obtained a valid BC Driver’s license
    • Access to transportation to and from camp site (as needed only)
    • Experience in a senior management position in an overnight summer camp setting is an asset.
    • Ability to exercise initiative, to be resourceful, work independently and collaboratively, adapt easily to changes in direction, priorities and handles uncertainty in a constructive manner.  
    • Articulate and authentic communicator with strong writing and presentation skills, communicates in a persuasive and compelling manner to a variety of audiences and for different purposes. 
    • Ability to balance competing priorities while moving long term initiatives forward.
    • English is required, French/Bilingualism (French /English) is an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations.
