Position Title: Facility Maintenance Assistant
Location: YMCA Camp Elphinstone
Terms: Seasonal contract, Full Time (must be flexible with shifts) Summer only contracts may be available, but candidates who can commit to working until mid-October preferred.

Reports To: Facilities Supervisor/Camp Manager
Situation:
Camp Elphinstone is located on the Sunshine Coast near Gibsons, a 40-minute ferry ride from Vancouver. It offers programs all year round to different groups and schools and in the summer if offers one-week, two-week and four week camping adventures for campers 5-17 years old.
From September to June, Camp Elphinstone operates as an Outdoor Education, Recreation and Retreat Centre for schools, businesses, clubs, and other special interest groups. Camp Elphinstone currently serves over 12,000 participants annually.
YMCA Camp Elphinstone has accommodation and dining for up to 400 people and has programs and equipment for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, stand up paddleboarding, low/high ropes, rock climbing, wilderness and environmental programs, archery, crafts and more. Camp Elphinstone employs approximately 140 staff/volunteers during July and August, with a team between 20-50 for the spring and fall Outdoor Education seasons, and a smaller core team of 10 staff during the winter season. Successful Camp Elphinstone staff are self-motivated individuals whose ambition is to help children and youth develop in an outdoor camp setting.
This position is contingent on programs being operational based on public health guidelines and any other relevant factors.
Nature & Scope:
The Facility Maintenance Assistant is an integral part to keeping camp clean and ensuring all buildings are safe for all staff and campers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance tasks necessary to keep camp facilities safe, clean, and in excellent shape
- Lawnmowing and landscaping duties
- Trail maintenance
- Cleaning and upkeep of buildings and equipment
- Role modeling appropriate behaviour
- The Facility Maintenance Assistant may be required to assist in duties not listed above. The YMCA expects the support of all staff members in fulfilling objectives that may not be specific to this position
Requirements:
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time
- WHIMIS Certification an asset
- Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable sector Search
