Terms: Part-time; 16-20 hrs per week

Situation:
Located within the Gibsons and Area Community Centre, the Gibsons YMCA Youth Centre, also known as the Graphic Lab, is a drop in resource centre open to people 12-18 years old with a focus on art and design. We aim to provide a structure in which youth can build capacity and leadership and gain access to the tools they need to pursue personal and group projects.
Nature and Scope:
The Youth Centre Coordinator will supervise the operations of the Gibsons YMCA Youth Centre, supporting up to 5 staff/volunteers and the youth that attend the program. This person will complete administrative tasks, ensure equipment is in good working order, and work shifts at the youth drop-in as part of their regular duties, welcoming and supporting teenage participants as they make use of our resources, lounge and community kitchen.
Responsibilities:
- · Supervises youth centre staff and volunteers
- · Provides general supervision to youth centre room and activities
- · Completes required administrative tasks, including scheduling staff, entering payroll, taking attendance numbers, and submitting monthly attendance reports
- · Builds and maintains positive relationships with the Gibsons and Area Community Centre, as well as local community organizations and partners
- · Assists staff and participants in learning to operate, maintain and orient participants around our technological resources (recording studio, sewing machine, 3D printer, vinyl cutter, laptop, printers, etc.)
- · Posts appropriate content for social media to engage audience
- · Orders and shops for supplies as needed
- · Recognizes and respects the needs of participants for independence, agency, privacy and restorative self-care time.
- · Provides a safe, non-judgmental space for participants to engage in structured and non-structured activity as they so choose. Develops structured programs if needed.
- · Perform related duties as required
Qualifications:
- · Experience in youth facilitation
- · Experience in arts, crafting, design, or technology.
- · Proficient in Microsoft Office Application
- · Commitment to social justice and anti-oppression, especially as it relates to youth.
- · Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with youth participants, staff and volunteers
- · Experience and sensitivity in dealing with members of different cultural, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds, including visible and invisible dimensions of diversity
- · Excellent organizational skills
- · Current First Aid/CPR certificate required
- · Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
