Junior Wranglers (Inclusion Support Specialist)- Zajac Ranch for Children

    Organizational Overview:

    Located on the shores of Stave Lake in Mission, BC, just one hour east of Vancouver, Zajac Ranch for Children is situated on over 40 acres of pristine forested land. During the summer months, Zajac Ranch provides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life threatening and/or debilitating conditions. In the off-season, Zajac Ranch welcomes school groups and private rentals. Revenue raised from site rentals goes to supporting Zajac Ranch for Children summer medical camps.

    Reporting to: Unit Leaders

    Direct Reports: None

    Position Type: Contract, Seasonal

    Length of Contract: 2.5 months (June 9, 2025- August 29, 2025)

    Compensation: $150.00 per day plus meals and accommodations provided during camp sessions.

    Number of Positions Available: 3

    Opportunity:

    The Jr. Wrangler (Inclusion Support Specialist) is responsible for supporting participants with additional needs who are attending a program with Zajac Ranch. Under the supervision of the Unit Leaders, the Jr. Wrangler (Inclusion Support Specialist) will work 1:1 to assist participants with physical, behavioural or developmental support needs, to plan and implements activities that are safe for all participants. Additionally, the Inclusion Support Specialist will collaborate with other Zajac Ranch staff to adapt or modify program plans to meet the needs of all campers. Inclusion Support Specialist will be assigned an individual camper each week to provide support in any program offered by Zajac Ranch.

    Specific Duties include but are not limited to:

    Camper Care:

    • ·         Provides creative adaptations, modification, or alternative options for participants when needed and as appropriate, while simultaneously adhering to Zajac Ranch’s policies and procedures
    • ·         Fosters an inclusive environment for all program participants.
    • ·         Communicates with parents/guardians to determine support needs and provide daily updates
    • ·         Reports on success and challenges of the program, including recommendations for the future, to supervisors.
    • ·         Utilizes emotional regulation, visual schedules and aids, positive behavior support strategies and other tools when needed to support campers in the enjoyment and successful participation of day-to-day camp activities.
    • ·         Maintains confidentiality of all participant information.
    • ·         Administers care in emergency and first aid incidents, exercising sound judgement and leadership, deferring to supervisors where appropriate.
    • ·         Other duties as assigned.

    • ·         Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
    • ·         Proven adaptability in response to unexpected changes
    • ·         Ability to work as part of a team, collaborating effectively with peers and supervisors to ensure a cohesive camp experience.
    • ·         A genuine enthusiasm for working with children and youth, with the ability to inspire campers and create a positive camp culture.
    • ·         Previous experience working with children with complex medical conditions and/or neurodivergence
    • ·         Completion of second year post-secondary studies in a related field (Social Work, Education, CYC, Developmental Support, Behavioural Science, Pre-Health, etc.)

    Required Qualifications

    • ·         Standard First Aid
    • ·         CPR
    • ·         Ability to pass criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening.
