    Location:                               Tong Louie Family YMCA, Surrey, B.C. 

    Terms:                                   Permanent, Full Time (will require regular evening and weekend work)

    Compensation:                    Under Review plus full benefits package

    Reports To:                           Vice President – Health, Fitness, Aquatics

    The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is in our third phase an ambitious strategic plan with a 10-year vision to build healthier, more connected communities, where everyone reaches their potential. We are in the midst of significantly expanding our physical and social infrastructure, with additions to four new health, fitness and aquatic centres, 1,500 new child care spaces, and a plan to double our services offered to youth. 

     

    Nature & Scope:             

    As part of the Health, Fitness, Aquatics and Tong Louie Family YMCA Leadership Team, the Manager, Aquatics – Association Lead, will be based out of our 75,000 square foot Surrey recreation centre of community. The position will be responsible for leading all aspects of aquatics for the YMCA including association-wide Aquatics initiatives to increase growth and capacity of 4-7 pools across B.C. In addition to ensuring service and program quality standards are being met and exceeded; this role also involves active participation and leadership in fundraising through our YMCA Community Campaign. Flexibility to schedule work on evenings and weekends will be necessary.


    Major Responsibilities:

    • Provides leadership, direction and guidance to Aquatics staff across the Association, leading 4-7 pools across B.C.
    • Interprets current industry expectations and develops and implements strategies that achieve and sustain program growth for aquatic programming
    • Coordinates the delivery of high quality programs and services that meet provincial and YMCA requirements and standards for programs supervised.
    • Progressively evaluates and adjust current Aquatics programming to meet the needs of YMCA members
    • Manages targets in annual operating plans and budgets
    • Provides support to the YMCA of Greater Vancouver Association regarding aquatics-based initiatives and strategies
    • Ensures new employees and volunteers receive role and program specific orientation and training
    • Coaches, develops and supports employees and volunteers to achieve excellence in service delivery

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Role models service standards and provide leadership through direct service delivery, with a focus on program quality and participant engagement
    • Support the YMCA’s philanthropic work through delivery of the YMCA Community Campaign
    • Participate in task groups, special events and opportunities that further the Association mission, vision and strategic initiatives and strengthen the culture of integration across departments, teams and branches

    Requirements:

    • Post-Secondary education or degree in a related field (Kinesiology, Recreation Management, Human Kinetics, Physical Education, Sports Health Science)
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse aquatics clientele
    • Minimum 3 years managerial experience
    • Minimum 5 years related experience
    • Experience as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor 
    • Able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
    • Access to vehicle for regular travel within the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
    • Current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certification required
    • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date   
    • 3 professional references
