Tips for International Campers 

Camping is an international movement with countless benefits to children. Learning about travel, new countries, customs and cultures helps to reduce racism and provide lifelong memories and experiences.

For parents considering an international camping experience for their child(ren) please consider the following:

  • Do you have travel and health care insurance for every day that your child is in Canada or in transit?
  • Have you provided a copy of your travel and health care insurance to the camp operator?
  • If you are using a work health care or travel insurance policy, does it cover the adventure programs offered by the camp? Are there exclusions? Are the compensation limits satisfactory? Does it provide medical transportation coverage?

  • Have you provided the camp with written permission for your child to attend the camp and travel on their own (if applicable)?
  • Have you provided the camp with written details on flights, bus schedules or other transportation methods used by the camper on route to the camp?
  • Have you provided the camp with details and contact information on non-camp accommodations that your camper(s) maybe utilizing?
  • Has written confirmation been given to, and confirmed by the camp, on the camps responsibilities to transport your camper(s) in Canada?
  • Do you fully understand and agree with the camp registration, medical and waiver forms. Have you completely filled them out, signed them and returned them to the camp on time?
  • Have you and the camp operator determined written plans on what will happen if the child's camping experience is shortened (i.e. child wants to leave, injury or illness, behavior issues)?
  • Have you provided all your contact information as well as three other emergency contacts that are briefed on you child's camping adventure?
