The BCCA Dave Stevens Technology Award is awarded annually in memory of Dave Stevens. Dave served as Executive Director of Evans Lake Forest Education Society and, for many years, as Executive Director of Sasamat Outdoor Centre. A significant contributor to the camping movement in BC, Dave was also a long-time member of the BCCA Executive.
In his work, Dave consistently demonstrated empathy, enthusiasm, idealism, a thirst for knowledge, and a keenness to apply theory to practice. This award remembers Dave for his love of, and proficiency in, the use of computer technology as a tool for camp administration- especially if the computer was a Mac.
Funding of up to $1200 for this award comes from proceeds of the BCCA’s Dave Steven’s Memorial Fund.
The money from this award is intended to help camps improve their programming, management systems and/or service delivery, through the use of technology. Technology (for the purpose of this award) includes, but is not limited to, website design, development, application, implementation, support, training, management and purchase of computer applications, software, or hardware.
Application forms can be submitted at any time. However, applications must be received by December 31st to qualify for the award being given out during the following year (example: applications for the 2018 award must be received by December 31st , 2017).
