Covid-19 Response

April 27, 2020

Dear Camping Family,

As the COVID-19 uncertainty continues for camps across the country, our camp community is needed now more than ever – to help us get through these challenging times together, but also to spread our magic to the world when we are left with the aftermath. My heart is with you all as you continue to navigate this challenging time.

I want to thank the Board who came together virtually for two days last week to work through many of the challenges amidst COVID-19, including finances and accreditation. Lauren and the Board have been working tirelessly to support our camping family across the province. We continue to advocate both provincially and federally. Provincially, we continue to work through the TSBC legislation, in addition to COVID-19 impacts for camps. We created a plan for accreditation given the current situation to ensure the safety of camps. Additionally, we continue to bring people together virtually to connect around decision making and problem solving.

Thank you to those who have reached out to us; I encourage you to continue to reach out for support. We are here for you. We are all in this together - and if there is any group of people resilient enough to work through this, it is our camp community.

In camping,

Accreditation

Due to the impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak on the 2020 summer camp season, the BCCA is extending all accreditation terms by one year. Aspiring camps will remain at the aspiring level until an Accreditation Visit can occur. Please remember, it is still the responsibility of the camp to notify the BCCA of any significant changes to operations, including turnover of senior management or cancellation of summer programs. BCCA members will receive an updated letter of accreditation shortly to reflect this change.

The BCCA continues to monitor the impacts of the Covid-19 on the camp industry. We are working to provide information and support to BCCA camps in meeting new industry standards surrounding contagion prevention, sanitary measures, gathering restrictions, etc.

2020 Accreditation standards can be found at: http://bccamps.org/Accreditation.

We commend BCCA camps for their commitment to providing safe and quality camp programs to BC children and families.

Membership

The BCCA is committed to serving its members and supporting summer camps in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. We will continue to evaluate membership fees for 2021 as the situation progresses.
